The music draws scathing soundscapes of stories about unavoidable realities, with a strong focus on the midwestern Methodist tradition, employing elements from worship and connecting them to secular avenues of music. Songs like “Migraine” incorporate the hymn, “It Is Well With My Soul,” other songs, such as the album's opener, “Conjure,” employ spirituality in a more abstract yet tangible way. Other highlights include the lead single, “Buzzer.” This song captures a memory from Ben’s coming of age in the Ohio woods and manipulates it into something dark, something evil, almost demonic. Released November 14, 2025 and written, produced, mixed, and mastered entirely on his own, "When I look to the sky, I see an angel" is the latest album from Ben McKelvey. A departure from his normal sound, Ben explores a landscape of vibrant guitars, synths, heavy-hitting drums, and the piano that has been central to his previous projects. It features his previously-released singles, "Bland, dull, repetitive, and boring," "Don't you remember you want me? (feat. Gaby Lesmana)," and "Nostalgia will be the death of me." Released December 1, 2023, the "things i never said to you (the two year anniversary edition)" is a remixed version of Ben McKelvey's 2021 debut EP of the same title.
