I imagine this song as the metaphorical opening of the gate into this world I’ve attempted to capture with Noises. It’s the first track on the album, the walk down the winding path through the woods on a muggy summer night lit only by the fireflies surrounding you. I wanted to invoke some element of summoning, as if an unseen force surrounds you unknowingly, enveloping you whole.
Noises is my senior thesis to complete my degree at The New School this spring. I’ve worked on this project for so long, researching the Midwest tradition, its relation to Methodist worship practice, and the connection to secular music. Noises is an interpretation of this connection in practice, and I’m so excited for you all to hear it soon.
