Noises came to me in a light-bulb moment one night last summer at my parents' house. I was sitting in the darkness of my bedroom, and out of nowhere, I could hear and see this project in its entirety. All of the visuals, the sounds, the landscapes of memories, the Ohio woods, the Methodist church, it all came forward and stretched its hand out not to welcome me in, but to welcome me back.
Noises has been the most intense but also the most fulfilling and rewarding creative endeavor of my entire life thus far. I threw everything I had, every piece of myself, into this project and never looked back. I wanted to create something that felt true to the most beautiful and ugliest parts of my life, and my main goal was to make no sacrifice in the execution of this project, and I’m happy to say that what you’re about to see here is exactly what I had originally envisioned that summer night last year.
Although the musical aspects of Noises were done entirely on my own on Ableton, this project simply would not have been possible without the guidance of the faculty who have informed and inspired my work heavily. I also extend a thank you to my friends who put up with listening to these objectively strange pieces of music and not getting bored with them, and to my family for allowing me to go out on a limb and make art I’m proud of. I also owe the most heartfelt extension of gratitude to my best friend, frequent collaborator, and constant inspiration, Lila Felsheim. There simply wouldn’t be visuals for this album if it weren’t for her, and I am endlessly grateful for that.
